For a real birds-eye view of the Cape, head to
Provincetown and climb the 252-foot Pilgrim
Monument. Atop the monument, which
commemorates the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first
landing in Provincetown in 1620, you’ll enjoy a
breathtaking vista of the outermost town on
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
the Cape.
Provincetown may also be the Cape’s most
vibrant community, one which has long
embraced arts and culture. Once at the
bottom of the Pilgrim Monument, take time to
explore the adjacent Provincetown Museum
to learn about the town’s history, which
includes a distinction as America’s oldest
continuous art colony.
The Provincetown Art Association and
Museum (PAAM) works to preserve the legacy
of this important cultural distinction through its
collections, exhibitions, and programs. PAAM
townspeople to build a permanent collection
of works by creatives on the Outer Cape. Its
current collection numbers over 3,000; the
Payomet Performing Arts Center
pieces were created by 700 local artists,
